Nébuleuse de la Méduse
What is left of a star that exploded: a bubble of expanding gas, in Gemini.
It is 45 arcminutes across, one and a half times the full Moon. Its distance is not settled: the published measurements run from 0.7 to 2.0 kiloparsecs. A neutron star, the collapsed heart of the dead star, has been found in the remnant. The gas is tenuous and filamentary. Without a dual-band filter and without several hours of exposure, it does not lift away from the sky background.
