Nébuleuse de l'Aigle

An emission nebula, a cloud of gas that shines, 7,000 light-years away in Serpens.

It measures 70 light-years by 55, and it is a stellar nursery. At its centre stand the Pillars of Creation, columns of gas four to five light-years high, eaten away by the radiation of the young stars nearby. The ionised gas responds well to the dual-band filter and comes out on the very first night. The detail in the pillars, though, owes more to the focal length of the instrument than to the exposure time.
