This is not a nebula but a galaxy, 10.7 million light-years away. It belongs to the M81 group, like Bode's Galaxy and the Cigar Galaxy. Edwin Foster Coddington spotted it in 1898, and the name nebula stuck to it. Its surface brightness is very low, 14.7 magnitudes per square arcminute. In other words, its light is very diluted. It is one of the objects in this catalogue where exposure time counts for most. A bright sky ruins everything here.
