Nebula · Orion
Two nebulae in the same field, at the feet of Orion and in the same cloud complex.
The Flame, NGC 2024, is put at about 1,350 light-years by the 2014 measurement. The Horsehead, Barnard 33, is at about 1,500. The first is a cloud of gas cut in two by a band of dust, which absorbs its light. The second emits nothing at all. It is a dark cloud, cut out in silhouette against the red gas of IC 434. On it, exposure time does not work on the object but on its background. The higher IC 434 rises, the more the silhouette stands out. And the dual-band filter speeds that rise up considerably.

Temps d'intégration : the total exposure time, the sum of every exposure stacked on an object.
Filtre duo-bande : it lets through only the two colours of emission nebulae.
