Nébuleuse de la Bulle

A bubble of gas seven light-years across, some 9,800 light-years away in Cassiopeia.

In the catalogue, the thumbnail for this object is cropped in on its subject, so that it can be seen at card size. This view here is the whole photograph, as I produced it.

The wind of one single star, of about 45 solar masses, blows it. The bubble is clean, but small, and it sits inside a far larger region of ionised hydrogen, which can reach 40 light-years. Everything there is in emission, so the dual-band filter is effective, and the bubble comes out fairly quickly. The cloud around it is tenuous, and it is the one that gains with every hour added.
